IMPACT ON THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

We are dedicated to creating authentic experiences that are rich with local cultural elements. We want you to have a local experience without cultural appropriation, while creating opportunities to sustainably give back to the same communities that so warmly welcome you.

Our favorite part;
- A 10% of each mat that is rolled out on our retreat will go into supporting the local village school where you will get an opportunity to visit and share your time.

We also ensure:
- All our staff is local to the community
- All resource persons are local to the island
- Sourcing of all products and services used are local to the island, if not the immediate community

It is important to us that we align with the true Yogic values of active compassion in our spaces, activities, what we take away with us and what we leave behind.

MEET THE CURATORS OF THIS EXPERIENCE

From the founder of this magical space, Anusha;

“The story of this space began with a struggle for focus, a struggle with my monkey mind, always chattering, and  stopping me from knowing myself and my aims.

Nature healed and calmed me, and I wanted to know more about my own nature, so I went to a Jiddu Krishnamurti school as a teacher apprentice…

It was a hugely beneficial year.  I was able to see the mechanics of my own mind and understand that my experiences depended on my own conscious state.

So, this space/place is inspired by my aim of healing self and others. I wanted to create a place deep in the sounds of nature, and silence... where  being can unfold, in a safe space, no distractions.

From my dream in a field of Brockwood Park School, I have carefully manifested The Cottage for all of us…”

About the Lead Instructor and co-creator, Natasha;

Natasha is a Sri Lankan born and raised practitioner forever inspired by the healing spirit of this island, and passionate to create and hold spaces of healing for each one in front of her mat.

She believes in offering her practices as enablers in guiding each student to tap into their own Healer/true self within. Her approach is gentle and nonintrusive, without compromising ‘Tapas’. She currently teaches regular classes in Colombo for adults and children, while traveling around the island for workshops and retreats.

A guiding pillar in creating this Roots retreat with Anusha was to manifest an experience for students that was more than just an escape and a deep immersion into the spirit of yoga and its teachings that have the potential to enrich our lives, and impact those around us in a sustainable way.

Her work revolves around the theme of Soft-Strength, a way of living inspired by her father, Ananda, and all the merits of her work are dedicated to his loving memory.
